|
In July the water runs high and crystal clear. The days are long and the fishing will be good in the mornings and then again in the late afternoon and evening hours. The strategy is position. Any seam or pocket that you can cast to and get a good drift to will produce fish. The size, color and pattern of the flies probably doesn't matter that much. We just need to show up with some. As the sun gets higher in the middle of the day the fishing will slow. Take the opportunity to relax and enjoy a nice picnic-style lunch at Long Meadow, or something from the grill at Boxwood. A very nice lunch is provided at no extra charge. As the afternoon wears on, and into the evening, you may want to change strategies. The clear, high water of July provides us with some of the hardest hitting streamer fishing of the season. Large predator fish come out from cut-banks and willow roots, in the low light of evening to prey on smaller fish. BIG FISH EAT little fish!!! |
