| June 2006 | |||||||||||||||||
|
June is a high water month. Both run-off and irrigation demands downstream contribute to higher flows in the summer months. From the end of May and for a couple of weeks in June the water can be fairly off-colored. It can be a great opportunity to land some of the biggest fish in the river - fish that would otherwise be difficult to approach in clear low-water conditions. As the water begins to clear in mid-June, we hunt for fish along the edges. Big dries and bead head nymphs are the answer. Turk's Tarantula, Chernobyl Ants, Prince Nymphs and Halfbacks will not be turned down. This is the time to stalk and sight-fish in the more moderate flows of the Oxbow in Boxwood. |
